Hi Clay; Hey you might want to check the DNR website, but I believe that Capitol Forest is closed to ORV use until April 1st. HOWEVER, our club does have work parties out there on DNR Work Permits. We have one coming up-go to our "contact" page & e-mail Joe H. for info. Martha B.
Martha is CORRECT, Capitol Forest is closed from Oct. 31st to April 1st every year. We do have work parties that we plan. We are in the process of planning one for Jan. 13th (Sunday) at 9:am meeting at the Middle Waddell Trail Head parking lot. Reply to this

Well its day 23 since the spring fling at capitol forest. The reason for this comment is to remind everyone to be extra safe at capitol forest this spring. on day one of the long course I was being pretty careful because of the conditions but In a split second I was sideways on a slimey slight downhill trail when I slid into a rut with my front tire. My quad slid sideways and as if I hit blacktop it started to come over. Normally when this has happened i would put my foot on ground and keep it steady but when my leg hit ground it just slid out from under neath me and i hit the ground with no way to escape the quad. It rolled onto me and i pushed with everything to keep it from stopping on me. I was able to push it away. I thought i knocked the wind out of me and figured my side and knee were going to be sore for a few days. I followed my buddy to the nearest gravel rode and headed back to truck. Because of several detours we rode 28 miles back to truck. I went to hospital with 5 broken ribs( 3 of them crushed into peices) on my left side and 2 fractures on my right lower leg. The first 3 weeks were hell but things are getting better. I have 5 more weeks on a hospitol bed in my living room. till i can put weight on the leg and probably 3 weeks of rehab after that before I can work. Be careful out there and I hope to be there next year if the conditions are better. Thanks to the staff and medics who looked after me at the parking lot of the poker run. Rich myer Reply to this

Sorry to hear about your injuries Mr. Myer! I also had a mishap the first day. My tire caught a hole and my quad rolled to the right down an embankment. Lucky for me I was thrown clear and have since recovered from my bumps & bruises. My quad, not so lucky. The handlebar completely broke, frame bent, fender & rack bent/broken etc. I was about 20 miles into the long ride, so was able to ride the road down w/out detours (about 12 miles). I only had one handlebar, so I held the throttle cable in my lap. Thanks to a group of riders who jumped right in and spent about 30 minutes making my quad "ridable" Reply to this
